The start of my doctoral work focused on Quality of Experience vs Quality of Service issues in online multiplayer video games, with special attention to lag/latency with Gears of War games (Epic Games). Later, my work transitioned to a focus on "failure" in video games, largely inspired by the work of Jesper Juul (The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark). The project began with intense study of the mobile strategy game, Gods of Olympus (Aegis Interactive). The monograph for GoO is here.

"The Paradox of Devotion"
I was assigned to write a policy brief and instead took some liberties in writing a piece that would hopefully have wider readership. The topic I chose examines FanExpo in Toronto, and makes a recommendation for how there could be a more responsible enforcement of copyright law for fanart at the convention. This was my final piece of academic writing.
